Asian-Pacific newspapers, statistics available to you

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. Did you know that the Atlantic City Free Public Library offers a great eResource called Library Press Display that gives you access to current newspapers from around the world in their original language, including publications from China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand?
Library Press Display features more than 1,700 newspapers from 92 countries and in 48 languages. Atlantic City Free Public Library cardholders can access Library Press Display 24 hours a day from any device that has an Internet connection. Those who don’t yet have our library card can utilize Library Press Display while using a library computer.
Those looking to learn more Asian-Pacific facts might consider visiting the United States Census Bureau website. According to the 2010 Census:
● U.S. residents of Asian descent now represent the fastest growing segment of the U.S population? More than five percent (17.3 million people) is of Asian descent.
● More than 15 percent of Atlantic City’s population is of Asian descent.
● After Spanish, Chinese is the most widely spoken non-English language in the United States. Tagalog, Vietnamese and Korean are each spoken by more than a million people in the United States.
