New Walk-in Job Skills Lab

The Atlantic City Free Public Library is now offering a free weekly Walk-in Job Skills Lab & Speaker Series to library members who need help with job-related tasks. We’ll provide refresher tips for your job search. The lab is on Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. in September and October in the Main Library meeting room. The Speaker Series begins at 4 p.m., following the lab.

Library members can receive personal assistance from a librarian. Staff members can guide you through the process of searching for jobs on the web, creating an email address, updating your resume, or completing an online employment application, though they won’t enter your information This service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Also, an online guide that highlights many of the library’s job-related resources is available. To view the guide, visit library’s website — — highlight the Learn tab and click on Jobs.

One of those resources is Job & Career Accelerator™. Interactive wizards guide users through each step, from exploring suitable occupations and finding available jobs to preparing targeted resumes and improving critical job search skills. The personalized Job Search Portfolio allows job seekers to plan, tailor and track multiple job searches at the same time. Job & Career Accelerator™ is available at the library; or, those with an Atlantic City Library card can access this great resource from any computer or device with an Internet connection.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesdays following the lab, the library will hold its Speaker Series. The schedule, which is subject to change, for September and October is:

Sept. 17: Career changes and jobs in demand, and how to search New Jersey O*NET (Occupational Information Network). Guest speaker: Esther Gandica, Atlantic Cape Community College.

Sept. 24: Information about Affordable Care Act (ACA) and NJ FamilyCare and how to apply. Guest speaker: Nikiesha Carter, Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers.

Oct. 1: How to use social media for job searches. Guest speaker: Caitlyn Weiss, Retail, Hospitality & Tourism Talent Network of Southern NJ/Dept. of Labor.

Oct. 8: Available options in light of job displacement/inability to pay current support obligations. Guest speaker: Judiciary staff from Probation Division Support Enforcement Unit. There will be a Q-and-A.

Oct. 15: Coping with job loss. Guest speaker: Juliann Henry from AtlantiCare and Chair of the emotional and spiritual care committee for the Atlantic County and Atlantic City long term recovery groups.

* Oct. 20 from 1-3 p.m. (special date and time): Landlord/Tenant court and foreclosure. Guest speaker: Judiciary staff from Civil Division. Staff from Municipal and Criminal Divisions will also be present to speak about how to address outstanding court obligations, such as fines and restitution.  There will be a Q-and-A. * THERE WILL BE NO WALK-IN JOB SKILLS LAB ON THIS DAY.

Oct. 22: Landlord tenant eviction process. Guest speaker: James Mcclain, attorney for South Jersey Legal Services.

Oct. 29: Services by Atlantic City Library and library tour. Guest speaker: Library staff
