Summer is here, which means it’s time for the Atlantic City Free Public Library Summer Reading Program!

From June 28 to Aug. 16, children and teens from birth through age 18 can attend a variety of Summer Reading Program events that are both fun and educational. Click here to download the events brochure in English or in Spanish.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Please call the Youth Services Department at (609) 345-2269, ext. 3050, for more information or to reserve a spot for programs where registration is required. Children less than nine years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please note program dates and times are subject to change.

SUMMER READING KICK-OFF
Tuesday, June 28, from 2-4 p.m.
Sign up for Summer Reading, get a FREE book, and enjoy a magic show.  Special guest speakers. Ages 18 and younger.

WEEKLY CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
FAMILY STORYTIME AND CRAFT: FAIRYTALE FEASTS
Thursdays, June 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; Aug 4, 11, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Features stories, songs, finger plays, creative movement and simple crafts for ages 3 to 5. Family and siblings are welcome to attend. Library story times are a fun way to help children develop skills they will need to be ready to read. Childcare groups are asked to call (609) 345-2269, ext. 3050, in advance to reserve a spot.

BABY BOUNCE AND PLAY GROUP
Thursdays, June 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; Aug 4, 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This program is designed to introduce infants (ages 0 to 24 months) to the world of sounds and stories. Stories, songs, rhymes and movement help build pre-reading skills for our littlest library lovers. An informal playgroup immediately follows this story time.

COMIC DRAWING
Thursdays, June 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; Aug 4, 11, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Learn to draw your favorite characters with Marvel/DC Comics illustrator Joe Del Beato.  Ages 9-17.

FAMILY FRIDAY MATINEE
Fridays, July 1, 15, 22, 29; Aug. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Enjoy family friendly films together on Friday afternoons all summer.

TWEEN DAYS IN THE TEEN LOUNGE
Saturdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Aug. 6, 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Not quite a teen yet? You are invited to rock out in the Teen Lounge and play video games.  Participants need a library card in good standing to participate.

LEGO CLUB
Saturdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Aug. 6, 13, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Use your imagination and our LEGOs to create something awesome.  Ages 6 to 12.

ADDITIONAL CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
FAMILY HOOPING FITNESS
Thursday, June 30, at 1 p.m.
Get active with the family! Have fun hula hooping while you get fit. Age 6 and older. This program is in collaboration with Oceanside Family Success Center.

SUMMER STEM PROJECTS
Saturdays, July 2, 16, 30, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Hands-on science fun for kids. Session 1: Introduction to Scratch Online Coding; Session 2: Makey-Makey Experiments; Session 3: Introduction to Finch Robot. Ages 9-12. Registration required.

OUR MARINE MAMMALS AND SEA TURTLES
Thursday, July 7, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Discover which types of marine mammals and sea turtles come to New Jersey and the dangers they face while here. Learn about the Marine Mammal Stranding Center and how it helps our marine mammal friends.  All ages.

CHOO CHOO CHARLIE
Wednesday, July 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Choo Choo Charlie will take you on a magical adventure with train effects, magic and comedy. Ages 5-9.

FITNESS FRENZY

Thursday, July 14, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Fitness Frenzy is an interactive multi-media, magic and juggling show that teaches health and fitness. It uses animated digital projections and demonstrations, including magic, juggling and comedy!

SCIENCETELLERS
Thursday, July 21, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Sciencetellers will make things fly, spin, move and soar while telling a series of stories! Throw on your coat and buckle up — participants will experience the science of power and energy through several exciting, hands-on experiments! Ages 5-12.

SEUSSOLOGY
Tuesday, July 26, from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
A very funny and silly cat runs this fun, lively and interactive program. Participants test their knowledge of Seuss Trivia in the Seussology Game Show. Comedy abounds. Ages 5 to 8.

SNAKES N’ SCALES
Thursday, Aug. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m.
This interactive presentation features live reptiles and amphibians! Children will see, touch and learn about their lives.  All ages.

END OF SUMMER READING DANCE PARTY

Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Program with ice cream sundaes, plus music by DJ Dave. Ages 18 and under.

TEEN SUMMER KICKOFF AFTER-PARTY
Tuesday, June 28, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Ages 13-18 are invited to stay after the official summer kick-off for an after party.

TEEN SCRIPT WRITING WORKSHOP
Tuesdays, July 5, 12, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Teens will meet to collaborate, write the script for and make a short film. Registration required.

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG)
Saturdays, July 9, 30; Aug. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m.

BOOKS INTO FILM BOOK CLUB

Teens will read two books (Maze Runner and City of Bones), discuss them, and then see the films while enjoying snacks. First 10 books are free!

SILENT LIBRARY CHALLENGE
Saturday, July 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Ever seen MTV’s show “Silent Library?” Perform ridiculous tasks, all while staying absolutely silent.

INTRODUCTION TO TAI CHI
Thursday, July 28, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Explore this way to raise confidence levels and harmonize mind with body. This program is in collaboration with the Oceanside Family Success Center.
 
TAG AGE-OUT PARTY & ELECTIONS
Saturday, July 30, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Join us in honoring TAG members who have graduated as they age out of Youth Services. We’ll elect new TAG officers. TAG alumni are welcome.

CROCHET CIRCLE
Thursday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Learn the basics of crochet. Crochet hooks and  yarn will be provided or bring your own! This program is in collaboration with Oceanside Family Success Center.
