Boardwalk Empire's Ed McGinty visits with Film Society
The Atlantic City Free Public Library hosted special guest Ed McGinty for its Saturday, Oct. 2 2012 meeting at the Main Library.
McGinty is a historical consultant for HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and he plays Ward Boss Boyd on the series. He discussed his work on the series, answered questions and signed autographs for those in attendance.
McGinty also appeared in Atlantic City: The Original Sin City, a promotional documentary for Boardwalk Empire that also includes an interview with library archivist Heather Halpin Perez.Adult Atlantic City Free Public Library members (18 years of age and older) in good standing are invited to join the Film Society.

Publicist speaks to Film Society on fifth anniversary
Entertainment publicist Gary Springer (wearing green shirt in photo) paid a visit to the Main Library to speak to the Film Society on July 9. Springer heads New York City-based Springer Associates PR, a company founded by his late father, legendary Hollywood publicist John Springer.
“It was an honor to have Gary speak to our group,” Film Society coordinator Theresa Hawkins said. “We have been friends for many years, so he felt free to provide us with unforgettable tales about his relationships with some of the greatest stars of all time. Some of the Film Society members said it was the best library presentation they had ever attended.”
The Film Society meets twice every month. The first meeting of the month is to watch a movie and discuss it. The second meeting is a classroom session which focuses on a particular aspect of cinema, such as screenwriting or in-depth looks at different actors and directors.
Adult Atlantic City Free Public Library members (18 years of age and older) in good standing are invited to join the Film Society. Library card and Film Society applications are available online and the Main Library Circulation Desk.
The Film Society has scheduled its August meetings:
• View “All The President’s Men” on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. – This 1976 political thriller is rated R and runs 138 minutes.
• Discuss National Film Registry on Monday, Aug. 15, at 5:30 p.m. – This classroom session will focus on the work of the organization behind this historic list and the films that are on it.
